What is the importance of managing your time?
⏰ Time is the only resource that is not recovered. Assessing it and optimizing it appropriately is of the utmost importance for the performance of your daily activities.
Nowadays, both the speed and going against time to carry out some pending activity leads us to chaos, from our work to our personal life. Therefore, having good time management is a powerful tool that will simplify your tasks when planning and organizing them, defining those that are a priority and separating those that could be considered of less importance to avoid wasting this valuable asset: the weather.
How to manage your time?
⏰ Technique # 1: Make and use listsThere isn't a single time management discipline that doesn't revolve around creating and using lists. And simply because it is not possible that you keep all the information in your head. For years, I have operated with four fundamental lists: My agenda. This is annual and has the most important pending of each day. List of things to do. It is the basic one, organized by month, week and day. List of people to call. It is prioritized and organized alphabetically. Conference planning. This is a page for each of the people I interact with often, where I write down new things that I need to communicate to him or the ideas that come to me in meetings and conversations. It is essential that you look for a regulatory listing system, which works for you and uses regularly.
⏰ Technique # 2: Support your memory with foldersThe idea is simple: You have 90 pending: you divide them into blue, red and white folders that have, for example, documents from the past, present and next month. Let's say you plan to follow up with a customer next month. Take a document (note, post-it, whatever) and mark it with the number of the day you plan to call it and place it in the corresponding folder so that you remember. Used properly, these folders reduce garbage, serve as automatic memory, and help organize you. Although there are many programs and apps that help you do this, having a physical and automated system can work better for you and you can complement it with a virtual version.
⏰ Technique # 3: Minimize meetingsNot everything needs a meeting to take place. In fact, I hate them. For many people, meetings are a place to hide, or to show off being important. But most of these are not necessary, functional or useful to work. You need to have a strategy to minimize them as much as possible. If you are the one who runs it, try to be brief and focused. If you have to attend one, analyze if it is necessary for you to do so. If not, find a way to avoid it
⏰ Technique # 4: Block Your TimeMost people's schedules only have time locks when they meet with other people. But blocking my time for all my work activities has worked for me. Every month I make several appointments with me from work. My goal is to have as little unallocated time as possible. By blocking your time for important and high-value tasks, you prevent other activities from taking up your list.
⏰ Technique # 5: Take Advantage of DowntimeToday everything is portable. A great speaker's seminar, any book, useful information on any subject - all are available on the internet, through your iPad, smartphone, Kindle, etc, or on CDs and DVDs. You can use YouTube to watch cats skiing, or you can read about a topic that helps you in your business. There is no excuse for wasting time while at the airport, stuck in traffic, or waiting for an event or meeting to start. Many people use this time to answer calls, messages or emails. But it is a mistake for three reasons: one, you are probably not prepared to do it and if it is something important you will do it mediocrely; Two, it is a bad precedent for those with whom you will communicate; and three, it takes time to think, learn, read or listen.
Plus, disciplined use of the time everyone else wastes gives you an advantage. Legal thriller writer Scott Turow wrote his first novel using morning train rides. Everyone around him was just killing time. For most people, these minutes are irrelevant. Do not be one of them.
